Building permits have been filed for the construction of a 5-story shelter building at 118-08 Jamaica Ave. in Richmond Hill.

The proposed building would be 50 feet tall and yield 12,407 square feet of community facility space. The New York City Department of Health Services will be providing 129 beds for the facility, which will also feature two cellar levels and a rear yard stretching 3o feet in length. The site is located in close proximity to both public transportation and many local businesses, it is easily accessible by multiple bus routes and is not far from the 121st Subway Station of the J/Z line.

The owner of the applications is listed as being Gunnveet Sandhu. The architect of record is Michael Kang Architect.

The development site, currently a vacant lot between 118th Street and Lefferts Boulevard, likely will not require demolition permits. An estimated completion date for the construction of the facility has not yet been provided.
