The Queens Botanical Garden is offering a special mid-winter break program for children ages 4 to 10 from Tuesday, Feb. 18, through Friday, Feb. 21, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 43-50 Main St. in Flushing.

This four-day program provides children with the opportunity to engage in a variety of fun and educational activities, including creating art with botanical materials, planting vegetables in the Garden’s greenhouse, conducting scientific explorations, and enjoying outdoor activities such as scavenger hunts and garden walks.

In honor of Black History Month, the Queens Botanical Garden’s mid-winter break program will also highlight the contributions of Black scientists, gardeners, environmentalists, and food justice advocates, offering children an opportunity to learn about their impactful work.

The Queens Botanical Garden, a beloved community resource, regularly hosts a variety of educational programs for children. This special mid-winter initiative is part of the Garden’s ongoing efforts to engage young minds in the wonders of plant and nature life. Founded in 1939, the 39-acre garden in Flushing has long served as a peaceful retreat from the city. Originally created as an exhibit for the 1939 New York World’s Fair, it was later preserved and expanded by local residents and officially renamed the Queens Botanical Garden in 1946. Since then, the Garden has been dedicated to fostering a deeper understanding of plant life and conservation.

The four-day program costs $440 for non-members, with a 10% discount for Family+ members and a 5% discount for families enrolling multiple children. Please note that lunch is not provided, and parents are asked to pack a lunch and snacks for their children. To register, visit the Queens Botanical Garden website.

The day will feature Black History Month-themed arts and crafts and storytime in the Visitor and Administration Building from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. In addition, children ages 7 and under can enjoy free admission to the Luminosa exhibit from Feb. 17 through Feb. 21, offering a unique opportunity to experience the stunning light display at no cost.
