Sullivan Papain Block McManus Coffinas & Cannavo P.C., a prominent New York-based injury law firm and general counsel to the Uniformed Firefighters Association (UFA), honored New York City firefighters during a high-profile St. John’s men’s basketball game against UConn at Madison Square Garden on Sunday, March 1.
As the presenting sponsor of the nationally anticipated Red Storm matchup, the firm recognized the UFA’s leadership and the recent launch of the New York Firefighters Foundation, a new initiative supporting the city’s firefighting community. During a special halftime ceremony, Sullivan Papain presented a $10,000 donation to UFA board members in attendance.
“As a firm deeply connected to New York and its firefighters, we’re honored to support St. John’s Athletics,” said Thomas McManus, Managing Member and Director at Sullivan Papain. “The Red Storm is heating up at the perfect time, and we’re proud to fuel that momentum while celebrating the brave men and women who protect our city.”
The partnership between Sullivan Papain and St. John’s University Athletics was officially announced this season, enhancing the fan experience through themed in-game activations that celebrate New York’s Bravest. The popular “Hero of the Game” segment highlights the courage and service of firefighters, while fans join in the excitement by waving “Fire” signs to energize the crowd and distract opposing players. A halftime challenge featuring children in firefighter gear has also become a fan favorite.
“We are proud to have Sullivan Papain as a partner,” said Ed Kull, Vice President and Director of Athletics at St. John’s. “Their commitment to New York’s firefighters and their investment in our program embody the spirit of this city. Together, we’re igniting something special for the Red Storm and our community.”
Sullivan Papain has a long-standing legacy of legal advocacy for firefighters, including representation in personal injury and 9/11-related claims. As general counsel to the UFA, which represents nearly 25,000 active and retired FDNY members, the firm continues to play a vital role in protecting the rights and well-being of first responders.
