Police from the 110th Precinct in Elmhurst are looking for a hit-and-run driver who struck a 14-year-old boy and allegedly sped away from the scene earlier this month.
The incident occurred just before 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 1, as the youngster was riding a scooter on the sidewalk on 94th Street approaching the intersection of 50th Avenue when the motorist allegedly hit the kid and kept driving, police said Tuesday.
The driver was last seen traveling westbound on 50th Avenue toward Corona Avenue. The youngster sustained minor injuries to his legs and was transported by EMS to Elmhurst Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
The NYPD released video of the vehicle passing through the intersection and described it as a gray sedan. A law enforcement source familiar with the investigation speculated that the vehicle might be an older model Mercedes-Benz. The NYPD also released a surveillance image of the suspect and described him as having a light complexion with dark hair with a medium build. He wore a dark sweatshirt and black jeans.
A reward of up to $3,500 is being offered for information that leads to his arrest.
Anyone with information regarding this leaving the scene of an accident investigation is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
