A man was fatally shot and another hospitalized following a double shooting in Far Rockaway early Thursday morning, police said.
The gunfire erupted around 12:20 a.m. on May 29 near the intersection of New Haven Avenue and Beach 19th Street, according to the NYPD.
Officers from the 101st Precinct responded to a 911 call reporting shots fired and arrived to find two men wounded at the scene. A 42-year-old man had been shot multiple times in the torso, and a 36-year-old man sustained a gunshot wound to the back.

According to a preliminary investigation, the victims, who were walking through the area and are believed to have been friends, were approached by two unidentified suspects dressed in all-black clothing before the shooting took place. The motive remains under investigation.
Both men were transported by EMS to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. The 42-year-old victim was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. His identity has not yet been released, pending family notification. The 36-year-old man remains in stable condition, police said.
No arrests have been made as of Thursday afternoon, and the investigation is ongoing.

Through May 25, the 101st Precinct recorded just two homicides year-to-date, equal to the total at the same point in 2024. The most recent CompStat figures also note that the command had three shootings, one fewer than the year-to-date total in 2024.
