What better way to end a summer day than to catch a classic film on the Long Island City waterfront?
The Hunters Point Parks Conservancy announced Wednesday the lineup of its waterfront movie series which includes films such as the original “King Kong,” “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” “E.T.” and “When Harry Met Sally.”
“Outdoor movies are a great way to bring the community together and there is not a better location, anywhere, in which to enjoy a cinema classic,” said Rob Basch, president of the Hunters Point Parks Conservancy. “Many of us have been to a drive-in movie but this is most scenic location for a ‘walk-in’ movie.”
The group’s movie series, which began in mid-April with “Frozen” and is sponsored by the real estate company Nest Seekers, brings a 26-foot inflatable screen to Hunters Point South Park and is placed adjacent to the East River with the Manhattan skyline in the background.
Movies start at about 8:45 p.m. and although the slots have been filled, community members will have the opportunity to send suggestion for the final film of the series expected to be shown on Sept. 19. Suggestions must be rated PG and can be sent to NestSeekersLIC@gmail.com.
LIC Landing by COFFEED, which is located within Hunters Point South Park, will provide food and beverages available for purchase during the movie.
The schedule for the series is as follows:
June 25: King Kong
July 23: Breakfast at Tiffany’s
Aug. 7: E.T.
Aug. 20: When Harry Met Sally
Sept. 19: TBA
