An Amber Alert was cancelled Wednesday, Aug. 18, after a missing 7-year-old girl was found “safe and sound,” according to the NYPD.

The Amber Alert was issued hours earlier for 7-year-old girl Jaila Puello who was allegedly abducted by her father in Elmhurst.

Police say the girl was taken by her father, Jean Puello, on Grand Avenue around 2:15 a.m., police said.

Puello went to the home of his ex-girlfriend and the mother of Jaila, at Grand Avenue near Van Horn Street in Elmhurst Wednesday morning around 1 a.m. and began fighting with her, according to authorities. As the argument escalated, Puello threatened her with a knife. She kicked him, and managed to get away and call the police.
