City Councilman Donovan Richards (D-Laurelton)’s wife gave birth to a baby boy — their first child — on Nov. 29 at North Shore LIJ Hospital.

The baby and mother are in good health. The 7-pound, 12-ounce baby was named Donovan Noah Richards III and already has been nicknamed “D3.”

“He wakes up at 3 a.m. every morning to eat and he sleeps, eats and cries every 30 minutes,” Richards said “It’s a wonderful experience and I feel so blessed.”

A spokesman for Richards said Mayor Bill di Blasio called to congratulate the new parents but was more interested in speaking with the baby.

Richards is the councilman for the 31st District, which encompasses the neighborhoods of Laurelton, Rosedale, parts of Springfield Springfield Gardens, Bayswater, Hammels, Arverne, Edgemere and Far Rockaway.

He chairs the Subcommittee on Zoning and Franchises and has been a strong advocate for homeowners fighting foreclosures and survivors of Hurricane Sandy.
