Police Blotter: Two teens arrested in Bayside gang fight

BAYSIDE – Two teens were arrested and two more were injured in what police described as a gang fight in Bayside last week.

Community Affairs Officer Anthony Lombardi of the 111th Police Precinct said officers were flagged down near Francis Lewis Boulevard and 35th Avenue during the afternoon of July 19 and told of the fight.

The officers, he said, then went to 190th Street and 35th Avenue and found four teens who had been fighting, two of whom were arrested.

Benny Callado, 17, and an unnamed 14-year-old suspect were arrested and charged with assault, Lombardi said. Callado was taken to Flushing Hospital, Lombardi said.

A knife was recovered at the scene, Lombardi said. No other arrests were made and no more information was released.

2 teens charged with arson, 5 injured in Flushing fire

FLUSHING – Two teenagers were arrested and charged with arson in a fire that injured five and ripped through a commercial building at 33-33 Prince St. at 3:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, police said.

Lu Chen, 17, of 105-20 66th Rd. in Rego Park and an unidentified 15-year-old were charged with arson, said Detective Madelyn Galindo, a Police Department spokeswoman.

She said the two teenagers were arrested after they went to New York Hospital Medical Center in Queens claiming they were assaulted. After further examination and questioning, it was determined the two teens were not assaulted but allegedly responsible for the fire, Galindo said.

Three civilians and two police officers were taken to area hospitals with smoke inhalation, said the NYPD.

Fire guts house on 192nd Street

AUBURNDALE – Fire gutted the first floor of a two-story house on 192nd Street near 53rd Avenue July 19, sending one person to the hospital for smoke inhalation, said David Billig, a Fire Department spokesman.

Fire Department communications received the first call around 11:23 p.m. from a next-door neighbor, Billig said. The fire was brought under control at 11:41 p.m., he said. Officials have not ruled the fire suspicious, Billig added.

Teens charged with stabbing each other on Crocheron Ave.

MURRAY HILL – Two teens were arrested after allegedly stabbing each other following a dispute at 192nd Street and Crocheron Avenue at about 3 p.m. Monday, police said. Both were taken to the hospital in stable condition, and each was charged with assault, said Detective Carolyn Chew. Benid Lallado, 17, of 43-26 165th St. was slashed in the neck and taken to New York Hospital Medical Center. Carlton Brockman, 14, of 132-35 Sanford Ave, was taken to Flushing Hospital after being slashed in the face, Chew said.

Car hits school bus on Union Turnpike

FRESH MEADOWS – A car traveling west on Union Turnpike slammed into a school bus carrying handicapped children early Friday morning, police said.

The driver, matron and three children on board the bus, which was heading north on 141st Street, were taken to New York Hospital of Queens and later released, said Carmen Melendez, a Police Department spokeswoman. The driver and passenger of the car were not injured, police said.

No arrests were made, and police were investigating.

Two workers catch Bayside robbery suspect

BAYSIDE – Two maintenance workers helped subdue a suspected thief after the man allegedly robbed an apartment near Springfield Boulevard Monday, police said.

Community Affairs Officer Anthony Lombardi of the 111th Police Precinct said Leonardo Cruz, 35, of 42-20 166 St. in Auburndale, was arrested and charged with burglary Monday afternoon.

Lombardi said when Officer Edward Devine arrived to arrest the suspect at the intersection of 224th Street and 64th Avenue, the two maintenance workers had chased and caught him.

The workers saw Cruz leaving a rear window of an apartment, Lombardi said. The suspect had jewelry in his possession, he said. The workers did not want to give their names, Lombardi said.

Firefighter injured in Glen Oaks blaze

GLEN OAKS – A fire ripped through the second floor and attic of a Glen Oaks home on Saturday at 3:45 p.m., the Fire Department said.

A firefighter was injured in the all-hands blaze that was brought under control by 62 firefighters, said Colin Bogart, a Fire Department spokesman.

The injured firefighter was brought to North Shore Hospital with a shoulder injury and was in stable condition, he said.

Man shot in foot in South Jamaica

SOUTH JAMAICA – A 30-year-old man was shot in the foot after leaving a building at 114-05 170th St. at 10:20 p.m. Monday, police said.

The victim walked out of the building and heard shots, said Detective Carolyn Chew, a Police Department spokeswoman. She said the victim then realized he was shot in the foot.

He was taken to Mary Immaculate Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition, she said.

There were no arrests and the investigation was ongoing, said the NYPD.

Woman raped in South Jamaica

SOUTH JAMAICA – A 27-year-old woman was raped by an unidentified 25-year-old man Wednesday at 12:30 a.m., police said.

The woman was forced back into her residence at 155th Street and 115th Avenue in South Jamaica by a man carrying a gun, said Detective Madelyn Galindo, a Police Department spokeswoman.

She said the victim was taken to Jamaica Hospital for observation.

There were no arrests and the investigation was ongoing, said the NYPD.

Guy Brewer Blvd. burglar stabs man in hip, say cops

JAMAICA – A 30-year-old man was stabbed after he confronted an unknown man about the same age who broke into a Guy Brewer Boulevard home, police said.

The victim struggled with the intruder and was stabbed in the hip, said Detective Edward Reuss, a Police Department spokesman. He said the victim was taken to Jamaica Hospital in stable condition.

The burglar escaped with $200, said Reuss.

There were no arrests and the NYPD was investigating, Reuss said.

Gunman robs eatery on Merrick Boulevard

LAURELTON – A gunman robbed the Kennedy Fried Chicken restaurant at 232-06 Merrick Blvd. early Saturday morning, police said.

A man about 30 years old waving a gun entered the restaurant at about 3 a.m. just as the employees were closing up and announced the robbery, said Detective Carolyn Chew, a Police Department spokeswoman. She said the man took $1,000 and fled in a red vehicle with three other men.

There were no arrests and the investigation was continuing, said the NYPD.

Firefighter revives 130th Street child

RICHMOND HILL – A 4-year-old child who stopped breathing Tuesday night was revived moments later by a firefighter in the back of a police car, said James Spollen, a Fire Department spokesman.

Fire Department Squad 270 was responding to a call for a child in respiratory arrest at 91-17 130 Street when they intercepted a 112 Precinct sector car that had already picked up the child, Spollen said.

Firefighter Pickford left his company to ride with the police and aid the child, Spollen said. Pickford first performed the Heimlich maneuver to dislodge an object caught in his throat, and then he administered CPR, Spollen said.

The child started to breathe again before arriving at Jamaica Hospital, Spollen said.

Firefighters control 189th St. house fire

HOLLIS – Fire companies responded to a house fire at 102-30 189th St. Friday afternoon, the Fire Department said.

The first alarm was received at 3:55 p.m. and was under control around 4:10 p.m., said firefighter Vito Berretta, a department spokesman

There was one minor smoke-related injury, and the victim was taken to an area hospital, he said.

The fire was under investigation., Berretta said.

Livery cab driver robbed on 36th St.

SUNNYSIDE – A livery cab driver was robbed by two passengers early Sunday morning, police said.

The driver picked up the two passengers at about 6 a.m. at 41st Street and Queens Boulevard, said Detective John Giammarino, a Police Department spokesman.

Giammarino said they asked to be taken to 31st Avenue and 36th Street. When they arrived the two took $120, the driver's cell phone and forced him from his white 1993 Lincoln Continental.

There were no arrests and the investigation was continuing, said the NYPD.

Man stabbed in stomach in Newton Rd. robbery

ASTORIA – A 20-year-old man was stabbed in the stomach by an unknown attacker on Saturday, police said.

The victim was stabbed during an attempted robbery Saturday at about 4:15 a.m. at Newton Road and 45th Street, said Detective Carolyn Chew, a Police Department spokeswoman.

She said the victim was taken to Elmhurst Hospital in critical condition, but he was later upgraded to stable condition.

There were no arrests and the investigation was continuing, said the NYPD.

Two on 30th Ave. charged with coke possession

JACKSON HEIGHTS – Two men were arrested and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance after police allegedly found them in possession of 19 kilos of cocaine, police said.

Based on a tip, police stopped a car belonging to Ferney Garcia, 32, and Gabriel Penna, 18, and allegedly seized three kilos of cocaine, said Detective Carolyn Chew, a Police Department spokeswoman. She said the police then got a search warrant for 71-08 30th Ave. where, she said, they allegedly recovered another 16 kilos of cocaine.

A 1990 Toyota Celica, eight ounces of marijuana and drug paraphernalia were also seized, Chew said.

Girl attacked on roof of Kissena Blvd. building

KEW GARDENS HILLS – A 15-year-old girl was sodomized by a 17-year-old boy she knew, just after midnight on Saturday, police said.

She was attacked on the roof of a building at 70-29 Kissena Blvd., said Detective Carolyn Chew, a Police Department spokeswoman. She said the girl was taken to Queens General Hospital and was in stable condition.

There were no arrests and the investigation was continuing, said the NYPD.

Priest charged with lewdness at Union Tpke. train station

FOREST HILLS – A Catholic priest was charged Monday with public lewdness in the men's bathroom at the E and F trains stop on 112th Street and Union Turnpike, police said.

Father Caesar Gomez, 35, of St. Leo's Church at 104-04 49th Ave. in Corona, was arrested for allegedly masturbating in the bathroom, said Detective Carolyn Chew, a Police Department spokeswoman. She said he was in ordinary clothing at the time.

3 stab, rob man on Roosevelt Ave.

WOODSIDE – A 21-year-old man who refused robbers' demands was stabbed by the three unidentified men Tuesday at about 12:30 a.m. at the intersection of 64th and Roosevelt avenues, police said.

The men demanded the victim's cell phone and money, said Detective Carolyn Chew, a Police Department spokeswoman. She said that when he refused, there was a struggle and the robbers stabbed the man in the back and forearm.

The men escaped with the cell phone and $120 in cash, said Chew. The victim was taken to Elmhurst hospital and was listed in stable condition, police said.

There were no arrests and the investigation was continuing, said the NYPD.
