Queens County Bancorp, the parent of Queens County Savings Bank, may close up corporate shop at its Main Street headquarters as early as this fall and head east to Westbury, L.I. in a move that could imperil some banking jobs at its central office in Flushing.
The announcement signaled the second defection of a large bank from Flushing in less than five years. GreenPoint Savings Bank, which had been headquartered in the heart of downtown, moved across the border into Nassau in December 1995 and took hundreds of jobs from Queens.
Queens County declined to comment on the number of jobs at stake in the relocation to Westbury or what would happen to the bank
