Bayside L.L.: Hamm hits for cycle as Express tops Florists

Major Division

Printing Express 9, Bell Bay Florists 7. Chris Hamm, 12, accomplished a feat rarely seen at any level of baseball by hitting for the cycle in a dramatic 9-7 victory. Hamm drove in six runs, the first two on a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh to win the game for the Express. Hamm also pitched three innings of scoreless ball. Ricky Strauss and winning pitcher Joey Schade had two hits each for the Express. Marc Buccellato and Mike Manus shined for the Florists.

Minor Division

Brigandis Barristers 8, Mardene Construction 0. Glen Barker pitched three strong innings for the Banisters and reached base three times with two singles and a walk to lead the Barristers over the Mardene team. Chris Paruch faced nine batters and sent down nine batters, six on strike-outs, to close the door on the Mardene’s. The Barristers also featured red-hot Anthony Zupnick, who went 3-for-3, two doubles and two RBIs. Joey Mardene pitched four innings for his namesake, while picking up a base hit, and Joey Miccio also reached base for Mardene with a single.

Valle Tile 6, Printing Express 3. In the top of the fourth with bases loaded and no out, Jorge Ynoa was sent to the mound for Valle Tile and stuck out the side to squash a threatening rally. Sal Muse reached base for Valle Tile twice with one double, a run scored and a walk.

V.I. Pizza 6, Valle Tile 4. Rob Schule laid down a perfect bunt to start a rally in the fourth and teammate Tom Stalal reached base three times with a triple for Valle Tile, which just came up short in this close contest.

PeeWee Division

Prava Construction vs. Mensch Lumber. The rain could not stop the fine play of these two PeeWee stalwarts. Every player on Mensch Lumber chipped in with two big hits. Prava Construction battled all game with Alex Kalogeras and Anastasis Thermos coming through with key hits.

Junior Division

Murphy’s Florist 13, Iannece Law 3. Murphy’s Florist improved to 6-2 overall after defeating Inanece Law Saturday. Chris Catalanotto pitched his team to victory, allowing only four singles. Paul Savino was 2-for-2 with three RBIs and three steals. Matt Bruno was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Catcher Phil Varsam caught three runners attempting to steal. Paul Kim, Michael Banome and Kevin O’Connor anchored the outfield defense, as Murphy’s played an error-free game. Billy Massaro and Peter Black led the defense for Iannece.
