Conlin blanks the Hawks
In Game No. 1 right-handed hurler Kevin Conlin hurled a complete-game shutout and scattered four hits while striking out seven in a 6-0 Dodger win over the Hawks from San Diego.
The California sunshine apparently agreed with Midville shortstop Vinny Johnson, who led the offense picking up three hits in four at bats. Second baseman Denson Ambrose also sparked the offense, going 2-for-3.
Midville mauls Arizona, 17-1
In Game No. 2, it was pitching by committee, as the Dodgers used four pitchers and allowed only four hits between them. Frankie Russo, Danny Pagan, Craig Pestun and John Hayes combined for seven strikeouts in six innings, as the Dodgers rolled to a 17-1 victory. The hitting stars of the game were Kevin Conlin (2-for-2), Mike Arlotta (2-for-3) and Tommy Maser (2-for-4).
San Diego Gamers humble Dodgers
In Game No. 3, the Dodgers decided not to show up and took their licks, losing to the eventual tournament winners, the San Diego Gamers, 14-0. Molloy righty James Lally pitched a strong game, but was not supported by either the Dodgers defense (five errors) or the offense, which managed only five hits.
Dodgers wake up late to scalp Sacramento
The Dodgers shook off a humbling defeat and returned to the scene of the crime, National City Stadium, to take on the Indians from Sacramento. The Dodgers were trailing 4-1 when they finally showed what they are made of and exploded for nine runs in sixth inning. Frank Russo, again on the mound, showed great poise when he got in a little trouble in the sixth, but held on just long enough for Kevin Conlin to get warmed up and shut the door on the Natomas Indians. Hitting stars were Denson Ambrose (2-for-3), Vinny Johnson (2-for-4), Kevin Conlin (2-for-4), Mike Maloney (3-for-4) and Tommy Maser (1-for-2). Maser put down a great bunt in the sixth that got the rally going, as Midville went on to win, 12-5.
