Police Blotter: Man shot at Briarwood school during robbery attempt Friday

BRIARWOOD — A 22-year-old man standing with an unidentified female in a public school yard was shot in the abdomen late Friday after two men demanded money from him, police said.

The shooting occurred in the playground of PS 217 at 85-05 144th St. about 9:35 p.m., police said.

The man was taken by Emergency Medical Services to Mary Immaculate Hospital and was listed in stable condition.

Police had made no arrests and were continuing their investigation.

Police arrest group of suspects in connection with robberies

NORTHEAST QUEENS — Four South Ozone Park men were arrested on charges stemming from a series of robberies targeting Asian passengers arriving home from Kennedy Airport, police said.

Cory White, 29, of 129-55 134th St., Saquan Bolton, 20, of 131-37 135th St., Kareem Padgett, 21, of 109-35 132nd St. and Robert Ellis, 23, of 131-36 135th St. were arrested on Aug. 30 by detectives from the 111th Precinct, Queens Robbery Squad and Port Authority Police Department, police said.

According to authorities, the men were involved in six robberies in the 111th Precinct, one in the 109th and one in the 102nd over a period from July 18 to Aug. 29.

The men would park in Kennedy’s lot and follow passengers arriving from Asian countries to their homes, police said.

Once victims reached their homes, the suspects would either punch or pistol whip them, then rob them of cash and other possessions, police said.

The men also committed two robberies in Nassau County, police said.

Cops corral gunfighters in Bayswater shootout

BAYSWATER — Two men were arrested last week for allegedly shooting each other as part of an ongoing fight, police said.

Andre Cohen, 32, of 444 Beach 44th St., who was shot once in the stomach and three times in the leg, was arrested on charges of attempted murder, reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a weapon, police said. He was taken to Jamaica Hospital in serious condition.

Rondell Mitchell, 19, who was shot in the arm and torso, was arrested on the same charges as Cohen, police said. He was taken to Jamaica Hospital in stable condition, police said.

The shootings occurred at 2342 Regina Ave. Sept. 3, at 5:10 p.m., police said.

Two other men, Bernard Fabien, 20, and Shawn Gipson, 21, fled in a car with Mitchell to 2340 Enright Rd., police said. Police obtained a search warrant, found two handguns, one of which was loaded, and ammunition, police said.

Fabien and Gipson were also charged with criminal possession of a weapon, police said.

Man shot early Saturday on Jamaica street

JAMAICA — A 21-year-old man standing in front of 163-04 109th Ave. was shot once in the stomach by another man early Saturday, police said.

The man was taken to Jamaica Hospital in stable condition after the incident, which occurred about 1:50 a.m.

Police announced no arrests and were investigating.

Queens Village officer arrested on harassment charge

QUEENS VILLAGE — An officer with the 105th Precinct was arrested on charges of aggravated harassment, police said.

Officer Kennedy Richards was suspended Sunday at about 9:25 p.m. in connection with an off-duty incident, police said.

Police did not disclose the nature of the incident.

Livery cab driver shot in S. Jamaica robbery

SOUTH JAMAICA — A livery cab driver was shot in the leg after a man demanded money from him Sunday night, police said.

The driver told police he picked up a man in his 20s in Rochdale Village about 10:30 p.m. and was directed to go to 142-18 133rd Ave.

Upon arriving, two other men approached the driver, and one pulled a gun and demanded money, police said.

The driver attempted to resist and was shot in the right leg, officers reported.

The victim was taken to Jamaica Hospital in stable condition.

The three suspects fled the scene and police were continuing their investigation.

Man shot on street corner in Edgemere

EDGEMERE — A 19-year-old man was shot once by an unknown assailant at the corner of Beach Channel Drive and Beach 40th St. at 11:05 p.m. Saturday, police said.

The man was taken to Jamaica Hospital in stable condition.

Police announced no arrests and were investigating.

Police arrest three on assault, robbery charges in Ridgewood

RIDGEWOOD — Three men were arrested on charges assaulting and robbing a person sitting at home Saturday, police said.

Jason Bullock, 21, of 1722 Putnam Ave., Ridgewood; Rafael Ayala, 25, of 1715 Putnam Ave.; and Michael Acevedo, 27, of Brooklyn, were charged with robbing a person in a home within the confines of the 104th Precinct.

According to police, the three entered the home at about 9:06 p.m., assaulted the victim and fled with an unknown amount of cash.

The victim was treated and released at the scene, police said.

Jewelry salesman robbed of merchandise in Astoria

ASTORIA — A 38-year-old jewelry salesman was robbed at gunpoint in his car of his merchandise while driving Monday, police said.

The man was driving his car when he was stopped by four men near 32-08 38th St., police said.

One of the suspects pulled out a gun, while another reached into the car and removed the victim’s bag of assorted jewelry, police said.

The suspects, thought to be in their 20s, fled on foot. The victim was not injured, police said.

Police announced no arrests and were investigating.

Robbers take $800 cash from Corona motel

CORONA — Two men brandishing a gun robbed a motel Sept. 3 at 109-17 Horace Harding Expressway and took $800 cash, police said.

The men fled and no one was injured in the 5:20 p.m. robbery, police said. They announced no arrests and were continuing their investigation.

Woman reports being raped at gun point in Forest Park

FOREST PARK — A 37-year-old woman was raped at gun point by a man in his forties about 6 a.m. Sept. 4, police said.

The woman was taken to an undisclosed hospital in stable condition, police said. Police made no arrests and were investigating.

Men rob Sunnyside home, lock woman, 2 kids in bath

SUNNYSIDE — Two men robbed a 66-year-old woman, an 11-year-old girl and a 1-year-old boy after locking them in the bathroom, police said.

The robbers entered the residence at 41-25 44th St. about noon Sept. 3, police said. The three occupants soon returned and the intruders locked the victims in the bathroom and fled with $110 cash, police said.

No one was injured, police said and their investigation continued.

Man claims bias attack in Sunnyside late Friday

SUNNYSIDE — A 25-year-old man reported to police he was assaulted while walking along Queens Boulevard late Friday by two men making anti-homosexual remarks.

The victim said he was knocked to the ground and kicked at the corner of Queens Boulevard and 48th Street about 10:45 p.m. by the two assailants who then fled, police said.

Police were continuing their investigation.

Unknown attackers stab man in back on Sunnyside street

SUNNYSIDE — A 22-year-old man was approached by a group of unknown men and stabbed in the back early Sunday, police said.

The man was attacked about 4:20 a.m. in front of 45-52 48th St., police said.

He was taken to Elmhurst Hospital Center in stable condition.

Police announced no arrests and were investigating.

Woman reports parked car covered with racial slurs

ASTORIA — A 30-year-old woman found her car parked at the corner of Ditmars Boulevard and 29th Street covered in scratched racial remarks Saturday morning, police said.

Police announced no arrests and were investigating.

Astoria cop suspended after failing drug test

ASTORIA — An officer with the 114th Precinct was suspended for failing a drug test, police said.

Officer Angela Navarro was suspended on Sept. 4 about 3:30 p.m., police said.
