TimesLedger Athlete of the Week: Anthony McCarty

Name: Anthony McCarty

School: Bayside

Sport: Baseball

Position: Pitcher

Year: Senior

Height: 6-foot

Weight: 185

Anthony McCarty kicked off his senior year in style, tossing his first career no-hitter in a 9-0 blanking of Van Buren last Thursday. And the economical McCarty did so on just 75 pitches.

“He’s been more business-like in his approach lately,” said Bayside coach Pat Torney. “He wasn’t overpowering, but his location was terrific. He had good command of his fastball and curveball and he painted the corners.”

McCarty, who was a TimesLedger All-Queens first team selection last year, is the first Bayside pitcher to toss a no-hitter since John Zucchi in 1992.
