Dwarf Giraffe Senior Division
On Sunday night there was a full schedule of games in the DG Senior Division. In the first game DePhillips Sporting Goods defeated Cascarino’s Pizzeria in a hard-fought battle. Scott Leo led DePhillips with 23 points, followed by Mena Yacoub’s 21 points and Ed Johnston’s 19 points. Joey Mare scored 35 points for Cascarino’s.
The second game saw Gleason’s Funeral Home defeat the Clintonville Restaurant. Nick Pisacano led Gleason’s with pinpoint shooting while Andres Kurumusis scored 28 points for the Clintonville team.
In the third game Whitestone Car Wash defeated Berardi Bakery in a very exciting contest. Points were evenly distributed for the Whitestone Car Wash team with Carlo Coumoutsis and Chris Mogollon having strong offensive games. Lucas Lay and Teddy Rojas were very strong off the boards for the winning team. Ray Torres led the Berardi team offensively, while Joey Graham and Tommy Franceschini also played extremely well.
With a 3-0 record, DePhillips Sporting Goods is leading this highly competitive division.
Dwarf Giraffe Major Division
The Donnelly Home for Adults ended its three-game losing streak with an impressive victory over first-place Lee’s Jewel Box. The score was 42-26. Donnelly was led by the strong two-way play of Keith Lippert with 10 points and 10 rebounds and the strong defensive play of Patrick Williams with 12 rebounds.
Max Meltzer led Donnelly in scoring with 13 points. Adam Breidbart added seven points and seven steals, and Jonathan Lee added six points and nine assists. Sean Gilmartin also contributed to Donnelly’s strong play. Lee’s Jewel Box was led in rebounding by Kunwar Singh with 12. Anthony Scifo and Tommy Schreiber also played strong games for Lee’s.
Dwarf Giraffe Girls’ B Division
Sparked by the offense of Bianca Pappas, Corinne Lippert, Harriet Skevis and Ashley Latoni, Franklin’s Printing took an early lead against MCF Association.
MCF fought back against tough defense by Melissa Clavin and Stephanie and Annabel Camilleri. The offense for MCF Association was led by Katie Flynn, Samantha McNamara, Sarah Smith and Samantha Litrenta. Strong defense and rebounding by Megan Latham, Anna Arellano, Tatiana Celcis and Chris Golea allowed MCF to come back late in the game, as the contest ended in a 22-22 tie.
Dwarf Giraffe Minor Division
In an exciting game, Duffner & Voight defeated Gigi’s Pizza, 31-21. Scoring for Duffner was Chris Franceschini and Andrew Kovach, both with 11 points. Joey Balducci and Eddie Mahovic also contributed to the win with six points and two points, respectively. Great defense was played by Frank Obidienzo and Dennis Brennan. Andrew McClean and Mark McClean scored for Gigi’s Pizza.
Dwarf Giraffe Girls’ A Division
Verdi’s Restaurant beat Ranshaw Plumbing, 18-7. Jessica Piccolino and Angelica Rodriguez led the scoring with six points each. Britany Naposki, Katie McGrory and Rei Lem each contributed two points. Nicole Naposki’s outstanding defense helped keep Verdi’s in the lead.
Ranshaw’s scoring included two points each from Dana Kettering, Carla Artopiades and Stacey Kurumusis. Kathy Zikas sank a foul shot for one point.
Dwarf Giraffe Novice Division
Rosa Pizza came away with a hard-fought tie against McKinley, 4-4. Ben Mehotic and Leanne Romano scored two points each along with some great defense by Chloe Fallon and Daniell Kline, who also came away with some great defensive rebounds.
Monique Galanti and Antonette Troia were all over the court stealing the ball as well as making some good passes in the offensive zone. Samantha Favalora made her presence known with some key take-aways that helped her team.
On Saturday, Champion played a great game in its 16-6 win over Dun-Rite. Leading the way in scoring was Tom Foley, who made shots from all different angles. Joseph Favalora added three points with a pretty shot from just inside the three-point mark and one point from the foul line.
Gino Centti added two points with a shot off the rim. Vito Cotoia played a strong all-around game, coming up with plays on both ends. Chris Ryan and Mike McCutchen were great at both ends with their scoring and some great defensive plays.
The game between Tiffany and the Whitehouse Restaurant ended with a 16-5 Tiffany victory. Tiffany won with good team defense.
On offense, Anthony Scarallo scored four points and passed to his open teammates, Ismael Nehhas, Matthew Siano, Dylan Chateau and Alex Tsiklidis, who scored baskets. Whitehouse was led by Kevin Reynoso.
