Police Blotter: Cops arrest Long Beach man in Jackson height hit-and-run

JACKSON HEIGHTS — Police have arrested a 32-year-old suspect in connection with the death of Natalie Guzman, an 18-year-old mother who was killed Jan. 18 after being hit by three hit-and-run drivers while crossing Roosevelt Avenue at 111th St., police said.

Raymundo Herrara of 1003 West Park Avenue in Long Beach, L.I. was arrested Tuesday by members of the New York Police Department’s Accident Investigation Squad, police said. He was allegedly driving a 1995 grey Nissan Pathfinder at the time of the incident, police said.

Herrera was charged with criminal negligent homicide and leaving the scene of an accident, police said.

According to police, Guzman was hit at around 5:32 a.m. by a black, four-door sedan speeding eastbound on Roosevelt Avenue, which propelled her body underneath the No. 7 elevated train. Moments later, her body was crushed by a white, four-door sedan speeding westbound, followed by a black sports utility vehicle.

Guzman’s mother, Miriam Toripio, 52, said she believes her daughter was murdered.

Assemblyman Jose Peralta (D-Corona) and Councilman Hiram Monserrate (D-Corona) held meetings to call for witnesses to come forward with information about the triple hit-and-run.

Woman slips through LaGuardia security with stun gun, knife

EAST ELMHURST — A woman passed through security at La Guardia airport Saturday with a stun gun and knife in her purse, only to realize at a later airport that she had mistakenly carried them through airport check points, according to published reports.

The unidentified woman discovered the items in her bag during a layover in Detroit on her way to Denver, the reports said.

No charges have been brought against the woman.

Grocery clerk wounded in Sunnyside robbery

SUNNYSIDE — A grocery store clerk was shot in the leg Tuesday following a robbery attempt in Sunnyside, police said. The unidentified suspect demanded money from the 26-year-old clerk at 39-02 47th Ave. who confronted the perpetrator and was then shot in the leg, cops said.

The suspect fled with an unknown amount of money while the clerk was taken to Elmhurst General Hospital in stable condition.

The investigation is ongoing, cops said.

Reward offered for info on fatal Ozone Park arson fire

OZONE PARK — The captain of the 106th Precinct held a press conference last Thursday to announce a $12,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest of a person involved with the Jan. 3 arson fire at 111-11 Liberty Ave., police said.

A 49-year-old father and his 20-year-old son died in the fire, which police said was questionable in its origins.

Capt. Dominick Gentile also released photos and surveillance video of an individual wanted for questioning in connection with the incident, cops said.

Human resources manager charged with menacing

QUEENS VILLAGE — A city human resources manager, Leonard Bruzual, was arrested and charged with menacing Sunday, police said. There was no further information on the alleged crime, police said.

Jamaica woman found dead, cause under investigation

JAMAICA — An unidentified 49-year-old woman was found dead at 95-40 Tuckerton St. Monday morning, police said.

The city medical examiner was to determine the woman’s cause of death, police said. The investigation was ongoing, cops said.

Breezy Point man killed after collision with vehicle

ROCKAWAYS — A 31-year-old driver was killed Friday night when his car collided with a vehicle on Beach Channel Drive, which then hit another passing motorist, police said.

Breezy Point resident Scott Bambrick was pronounced dead at the scene after his eastbound car hit the first car traveling west about 11:45 p.m. The second crash resulted from the first one, police said. The other crash victims were not hurt, police said.

Officers made no arrests.

Woman found dead in Far Rock street

BROOKLYN — A Far Rockaway resident was found dead on the street in front of 216 Rockaway Ave. Saturday morning, police said.

Police later identified the victim as Maria Monti, 45, of 51-15 Almeda Ave.

The city medical examiner was to determine the cause of death, police said. There have been no arrests in the ongoing investigation, police said.

Motorist injured in Flushing after car spins out of control

FLUSHING – A 29-year old man driving a 1999 Lexus spun out of control while traveling north and crashed into a tree on 164th Street Sunday about 3:30 p.m., police said.

The driver was taken to New York Hospital Queens in critical condition, police said.
