St. Mel’s Rookies best OLBS

St. Mel’s seventh-grade Rookie boys finally defeated a tough OLBS team in the Flushing Division A Playoffs. Over the past two years St. Mel’s played OLBS eight times, including a Flushing division championship game, and always fell just short. S

Point guard Giancarlo Santillo led all scorers with 30 points including an amazing 12-of-15 from the charity stripe. Filippo Gattoni poured in 12 while Anthony Merkle and Joey Kurtz hit for two apiece.

Chris Garthright drained the long three to ensure the victory. Steven Mare and Robert Romano provided strong defense and rebounding while Richard Vollini provided valuable rest minutes off the bench for St. Mel’s. For OLBS, Matt Valle pounded in 17, Danny Rosman hit for 14, Anthony Schifo added 11 and Mike McManus and Joe Toro had two apiece.
