Job: Frank Kotnik has been involved in the Glendale Civilian Observation Patrol (G-Cop) for nearly 20 years and has served as the organization's president for the past 10 years. G-Cop, New York City's oldest, largest and most proactive Civilian Patrol, blankets the 104th Precinct in private unmarked vehicles and reports all police, fire and medical emergencies to the proper authorities via radio.
Immediately following September 11, 2001, G-Cop played a pivotal role in helping staff the 104th Precinct to allow as many NYPD officers as possible from the precinct to respond to the rescue and recovery efforts at Ground Zero.
Residence: Kotnik has lived in Glendale his entire life.
Most Rewarding Aspect: “While other people complain about crime, the G-Cop is doing something about it,” Kotnik said. “You are trying to make people feel comfortable and safe - that's the whole idea; it's all about quality of life.”
Favorite Memory: While Kotnik has many memories of events he has participated in and crimes that he has prevented over the past 20 years, he remembers one recent incident where he worked with the 104th Precinct to help apprehend two robbers.
About the Organization: Currently, G-Cop has over 100 members from Glendale, Middle Village, Maspeth and Ridgewood who volunteer their time with the program working to ensure the safety of the surrounding neighborhoods. Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of every month at 8:00 p.m. at 79-03 Myrtle Avenue in Glendale. For more information about the organization visit www.g-cop.org.
