Stanley “Ted” Tulchin

North Shore Towers resident and Board of Directors member Stanley “Ted” Tulchin passed away December 19th at the age of 79.
Tulchin moved into the Towers in 2001 with his wife of 53 years, Pat. He was the father of two sons, Jeffrey and Steven, and one daughter, Jill. He also was the grandfather of three.
With his extensive background in business, Tulchin formerly served on the Board of Directors at Rockefeller Apartments and the Topps Company. He was also the founder and chairman of Continental Bank of Long Island.
Later on in life, Tulchin fulfilled a lifelong dream of working in the theatre by producing Broadway shows both in London and in New York. He produced the Pulitzer Prize winning show “Dinner with Friends.” Tulchin’s most recent production was the revival of “Sweeney Todd,” which opened last November and is currently playing at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre and stars Patti LuPone.
Tulchin used his theatre connections to bring unique performances and lecturers to the North Shore Towers Country Club, among them being Russian pianist Vassily Primakov and writer Caraid O’Brien, who spoke about the Yiddish Theatre.
Tulchin ran for the Board of Directors at North Shore Towers in June of 2005.
“I want to bring a new voice to the board,” Tulchin said during elections.
Of 11 candidates running for four positions, Tulchin was selected to serve the community. He was chosen to chair the Finance Committee as well as the Publicity, Public Relations and Marketing Committee.
Regardless of what he was doing, Tulchin hoped to include the members of the North Shore Towers community.
“I don’t think that wisdom is only limited to the board members,” he had said. “I think there is a great deal of wisdom, talent and intelligence among the co-op owners. I’d like to see more of that come to the floor so that we can benefit from their thinking.”
Tulchin very much loved the community he lived in.
“North Shore Towers is the best kept secret in New York,” he said. “It’s a marvelous place to live.”
In honor of Tulchin, his family is creating a scholarship at New Dramatist, which is a non-profit organization that works to develop talented playwrights.
