Don’t Keep School Closings Secret

Catholic Schools are getting ready to celebrate Catholic Schools’ Week, the schools have already started to advertise for registration. Just about this same time last year, the Brooklyn Diocese paper, The Tablet, wrote an editorial, using much more eloquent words to essentially say that parents must have had their heads in the sand if they didn’t see the massive school closing coming last year.
For the past two weeks, The Tablet has been advertising the benefits of enrolling children in our schools and pumping up stories of the upcoming celebration and open houses.
What is not being published is the fact, substantiated by many articles and interviews given by the Diocese last year that more schools are slated to be closed. But of course, the public has to play a guessing game as to which ones.
Are no schools closing this June? Has the Diocese changed their position in just a year, or will another bomb be dropped on March 1st (Ash Wednesday)?
As faithful supporters of the Catholic Education System, parents are entitled to know if their children will be uprooted again and new enrolling parents should know whether the school will be open for the next 8 years or less.
Gentlemen – do not repeat the mistakes of last year. Be honest with us!
