JOHN PFLUG

SENIOR
HOCKEY
ARCHBISHOP MOLLOY

HIGHLIGHTS: A four-year starter on the Archbishop Molloy hockey team, Pflug won a city championship as a sophomore and has been a vital member of this year’s squad that recently reached the CHSHL ‘A’ division finals. A stalwart defenseman, he scored two goals in the Stanners’ lone playoff loss to Iona Prep.
“He does his job very effectively and very efficiently,” Molloy Coach Rich Rodgers said. “He’s not a rah-rah type of guy, but when you put him in there, he’s always ready. He’s a very smart kid.”

NOTABLE: Pflug has been playing travel hockey for three years. Currently, he’s skating with the Brooklyn-based New York Warriors. They play all over the east coast, traveling throughout New York State to as far south as Virginia. Prior to joining the Warriors, Pflug played with the Great Neck Bruins.

PERSONAL: When Pflug isn’t on the ice thwarting opponents’ scoring chances, he’s on a baseball diamond. The 5-foot-9, 150-pound Fresh Meadows resident is a catcher on the Archbishop Molloy baseball team.
Pflug, 18, is also an outstanding student. He maintains a 96 average, listing his favorite class as AP Biology, because “it’s an interesting class. We learn a lot of cool things,” he said. Pflug will attend the University of Scranton next fall, where he will try out for their Division III hockey team. He plans on studying health or law there.
Pflug played roller hockey as a youngster, which segued into a switch to ice hockey, although it was tough at first. “I got used to it after a while,” he said.
When he isn’t on the ice or studying, Pflug likes to listen to rock and rap. His favorite bands are The Who and System of a Down.
