Lancman’s campaign moves forward

Councilman Tony Avella endorsed Rory Lancman for the 25th Assembly District in Queens in front of Avella’s home in Whitestone Friday afternoon. Others joining the race in the Democratic Primary on Tuesday, September 12th have yet to be announced.
Hoping to fill the open seat left by Brian McLaughlin, who decided not to run for reelection in an effort to devote himself fully to the New York City Central Labor Council, Lancman, a Hillcrest resident, certainly has the qualifications.
He’s held leadership positions in numerous community and civic organizations in the 25th District. Serving 16 years on Community Board 8, he’s currently chair of the Youth & Education Committee and vice president of the Flushing Heights Civic Association. He was the chair of the Queens Hospital Center Community Advisory Board from 1995 to 2000, during which time he led the community’s successful fight against privatization and in favor of the hospital’s reconstruction. Furthermore, Lancman is a Board Member of the Queens Jewish Community Council and a Democratic District Leader.
“I could not be prouder than to stand here today and receive Council Member Avella’s endorsement,” said Lancman, who will focus us on reforming Albany, fighting crime, improving education, expanding access to Health Care and protecting the environment. “I hope to draw on my twenty years of community experience to become an effective voice in Albany for the 25th District. … I realized a long time ago that in our system of government the people with the most opportunities to have the greatest impact are elected officials. It hit me that if I wanted to have a bigger impact, running for office and getting elected, is where it’s at. ”
