Senator Malcolm A. Smith has launched “Operation Everybody Works (OEW),” a new initiative designed to help southeast Queens residents seek employment.
The goal of OEW is to find employment for one person a day for the next 90 days starting from May 1.
Various organizations have pitched in to help by either employing qualified out-of-work individuals or helping them develop the skills they need to obtain reputable employment.
Southeast Queens residents who participate will be matched up with a job based on their skills and information provided to program administrators, then, if appropriate, referred to the Queens Work Force-1 Career Center where they will receive tips to enhance their work place marketability. The participants will then be sent for interviews by potential employers.
“There are many talented and qualified individuals who, for whatever reason, find themselves without a job,” said Smith. “Often, they lack the resources needed to find new employment in the new economy. What we hope to do through Operation Everybody Works is to bridge the gap between job seekers and hiring companies.”
Companies involved in OEW include the Agency for Children’s Services, Air Train, Complete Homecare Services, SCO Family of Services, Council for Airport Opportunities, D&F Development Group, Delta Funding Corporation, the FDNY, Great Abstract Builders, Jamaica YMCA, NYC Construction Union, the NYPD, Queens Workforce Development, and Snapple.
