Flushing BID making holiday plans

The Flushing Business Improvement District (BID) cannot promise a White Christmas, but they will try to make the holiday season a special one. They held a planning meeting with members of the historic houses in Flushing at the Sheraton LaGuardia East Hotel to discuss upcoming promotional events and preparations for the holiday season.
On hand were The Queens Historical Society, the Latimer House, Voelker Orth Museum, and Flushing Town Hall. They went over plans for the &#8220Historic Holiday House Tour,” on Sunday, December 10. Started 20 years ago, the tour was bypassed last winter, but has been brought back by the partnership between the BID and Queens Historical Society. &#8220It's a perfect partnership,” said Mabel Law, executive director of the BID.
It will include trips to historic homes in Flushing such as the Quaker House, Bowne House, Latimer House, Voelker Orth Museum, Flushing Town Hall and Kingsland Homestead (Queens Historical Society). Each house will offer different activities; for instance, all homes will have holiday decorations and food and drinks like mull cider and hot cocoa. The Kingsland Homestead will have Victorian ornaments on their large Victorian tree.
The BID holiday lighting plan will once again include decorative snowflake garland streamers, &#8220Season's Greetings” signs, and a three-dimensional snowflake at the transit hub of Main Street and Roosevelt Avenue. Macy’s, the Sheraton LaGuardia East Hotel, and Con Edison will again sponsor the festivities. The BID and business and community partners will again contribute giveaways to promote the district and the spirit of the holiday season. The BID will also create a Flushing Holiday Calendar to coordinate events during the holiday season and distribute widely throughout the region.
In addition to the aforementioned plans, the Flushing BID is co-sponsoring two big events in the fall. Discover Queens Restaurant Week, from September 18-28, is offering residents full-course meals for $19.86, in honor of the 20th anniversary of the New York Mets 1986 World Series victory. Furthermore, on November 20, there will be the BID Holiday Season Kickoff with Macy's and BID Holiday Celebration with the Sheraton LaGuardia East Hotel and Con Edison.
