Remember To Vote

On Tuesday, September 12, Primary Elections will be conducted from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. If you are a registered member of a recognized political party, you will be able to vote to select your party's nominee for the general election in November.
If you are not a registered voter, use this election as an opportunity to become one. Go to your local polling place, usually the school nearest your home, and get an application or go online to www.vote.nyc.ny.us/register and download the form, fill it out and send it back. You can call the Voter Phone Bank for further information at 866-VOTE-NYC.
Many candidates have spent a great deal of time, gone through the sometimes troubling political red tape and spent a great deal of money, often from their own resources, to win the chance to represent you. Reward their efforts, support them, and exercise your rights as a citizen by voting and participating in the American democratic process.

We Will Never Forget
As the fifth anniversary of September 11 looms, take a few moments to talk to your friends, your loved ones, your families and your children about the sacrifices that the heroes of that day so selflessly made.
Include some mention of the all sacrifices made following the terrorist attack on New York City that triggered our national War on Terror. Speak of the thwarted terrorist plots that have been foiled since that awful day. Remember our servicemen and women and our reservists who are fighting the war on the front lines in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Say a prayer for those who lost their lives in the collapse of the Twin Towers and the uniformed personnel who died trying to rescue survivors from the rubble. Add a prayer for our military who gave their lives in the ensuing battle against terrorism. Include in your prayers all those who are currently fighting that war overseas and here at home.
Above all, always remember - We will never forget.

School Opens - Drive Safely
Schools in Queens are once again in full session.
Please drive a little slower near school buildings and playgrounds. Far too many children are seriously injured and even killed within a block of their schools.
We implore parents who drive their students to school to park legally and escort your children across streets - using the crosswalks - to the school grounds. Do not be lazy or cavalier and drop them off across the street or in mid-block so they must navigate the roadways and dodge cars all by themselves.
Let us all protect the children, even the silly ones who jaywalk and cross against traffic lights or race from between parked cars in the middle of the block.
Look, Listen and be Cautious around all of our schools and help prevent tragic accidents this school year.
