Man Gets 25 Years For Crime Spree

A Hollis man who committed a series of violent crimes - including rape, assault and bank robbery - during a two-week period in January 2005 has now been sentenced to 25 years in prison.
Roy Williams, 32, of 190-25 Woodhull Avenue in Hollis, pleaded guilty to first-degree rape, first-degree assault and first- and third-degree robbery.
According to District Attorney Richard A. Brown, the defendant pled guilty to the following incidents:
•A bank robbery on January 4, 2005 at a North Fork Bank branch at 257-03 Hillside Avenue in Jamaica during which the defendant gave a teller a note claiming he was armed and would shoot her co-workers before fleeing with $1,811;
•A bank robbery on January 7, 2005 at the Bank of America branch at 175-57 Hillside Avenue in Jamaica during which the defendant passed a similar note to a teller and fled with $2,550;
•A rape of a 34-year-old woman on January 12, 2005 on Avon Street in Jamaica Estates during which the defendant attacked the woman in her automobile, sexually assaulted her, took her money and jewelry and fled in the vehicle;
•An assault on a 69-year-old Catholic nun on January 13, 2005 outside the Immaculate Conception convent on Midland Parkway in Jamaica Estates during which the defendant beat the victim with a pistol breaking her nose and inflicting other injuries before fleeing with her pocketbook and automobile, a 2002 Nissan Sentra; and
•A bank robbery on January 18, 2005 at the North Fork Savings Bank branch at 233-15 Hillside Avenue in Jamaica during which the defendant passed a note to a teller that claimed he was armed and would shoot her co-workers and fled with $2,329.
