With the shakeup of committee and subcommittee leadership positions in the House still taking place, Queens Congressmember Carolyn Maloney recently became the chair of the powerful Financial Institutions Subcommittee, which oversees the American banking industry including more than 22,000 banks, thrifts and credit unions.
“Many of America’s preeminent financial institutions are my constituents, and I will work to maintain the safety and soundness of our banking system, both for the banks and their customers,” Maloney said. “I will take a balanced approach and will keep an open mind to all sides of an issue.”
Maloney has been a staple on the Financial Services Committee earning a membership position when she first was elected to Congress in 1992.
“I am thrilled and honored to get the gavel for this vital subcommittee,” said Maloney. “As a New Yorker who represents much of the financial heart of the country, this subcommittee is a natural fit.”
