Help us catch a thief!

Here’s a chance to earn $250, and help defend the first amendment.
Some person or persons unknown are trying to keep you from reading The Queens Courier by stealing our curbside distribution boxes, and we are asking for the public’s help in apprehending them.
As the borough’s pre-eminent free weekly newspaper, providing the latest in news and features plus valuable local advertising, we rely on these “honor boxes,” which are registered with the New York City Department of Transportation and have to comply with their regulations, to be there for the general public.
According to Joshua Schneps, co-publisher of the paper, nine boxes have been stolen from their street locations in Bayside, Whitestone and Flushing in recent months. “We intend to replace the stolen boxes and have taken measures to catch those responsible for removing our boxes going forward.”
The boxes are located in high-traffic commercial areas. Most of the thefts occurred during the overnight hours, but one of the bright red boxes, at Bell Boulevard and 39th Avenue, was taken in broad daylight, according to Schneps.
Schneps said he is offering a $250 reward “for information leading to the arrest and conviction” of whoever is responsible for stealing the boxes. “We’re going to push for the fullest prosecution of those responsible,” he said.
He also made it clear that anyone could return the distribution boxes by leaving them near the entrance to the Schneps Communication offices at 38-15 Bell Boulevard in Bayside, “no questions asked.”
