Do You Really Want It?

Well, do you? “It” is anything in your life that you really want. It may be the thing or things that you think will make you happy. It might be a romantic relationship, a new job, to get in shape, a peaceful home, a baby. It may be several of these things or a bunch of others.
So why don’t you have it?
Fear and self-doubt are usually the obstacles that keep people from getting and living what they want.
Fear comes in many forms. You can fear not having what you want (“failure”) and you can fear having what you want (“success”). Very often, it is not our weaknesses that we fear but rather our great power. Fear of change is a powerful and common fear.
This fear is so powerful that people stay in unhealthy abusive situations just so they do not have to change.
Self-doubt is the other powerful obstacle. “I am not good enough,” “who do I think I am,” “I’m not good enough,” “It’s too good to be true.” All of these are powerful beliefs of self-doubt. They are strong enough to stop all good intentions in their tracks.
How do you change your fear and self-doubt into action and results?
The following are five great ways to help reduce the obstacles of fear and self-doubt.

Listen to your thoughts when you choose not to move toward what you want.
We all have a tape that plays in our minds. Sometimes the tape is positive, sometimes not. When you achieve or do not achieve things in life, your thoughts are in line with the outcome. Start listening to what you tell yourself when you think about what you want. Do you tell yourself “I don’t have time,” “I can’t do that,” “I am too scared to do that?”

Write them down.
Make note of these thoughts. Most often people just have thoughts running through their minds unconsciously. These thoughts are running your life. If you want to change your life, you must change your thoughts so you better know what they are.

Commit to the new thoughts.
Now you must commit to these new thoughts in two steps. Start your day with a new mantra or new thoughts. Wake up and remind yourself “I can accomplish my dreams, I am creating all that I want. When I feel fear, I will acknowledge it and go for my dreams anyway.” This will help you to start creating a new tape. The second step is to notice whenever your old thoughts come up and acknowledge them. “Humph, there are those thoughts again.” Then repeat your mantra or new thought pattern.
