Santa, BID to light up downtown Flushing

The downtown Flushing Business Improvement District (BID) is teaming up with Macy’s Special Events department to kick-off the holiday season with a lighting ceremony.
On Monday, November 19, Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade Santa and his elves will team up with the BID in front of the main entrance to the Macy’s store at 136-50 Roosevelt Avenue (between Main and Union Streets) and “throw the switch” to illuminate the holiday lighting, which covers much of downtown Flushing.
Children from the Chinese-American Council’s school-age Day Care Center at P.S. 20 in Flushing will participate in the lighting ceremony, which runs from 5 to 6 p.m.
The festive lights span Main Street from Northern Boulevard to Sanford Avenue; Roosevelt Avenue from Prince to Union Streets; 39th Avenue from College Point Boulevard to Main Street; 40th Road from Prince to Main Streets and Kissena Boulevard to Sanford Avenue.
After the lighting, everyone will march to the Sheraton LaGuardia East Hotel, 135-20 39th Avenue, for a community holiday party in the second-floor ballroom, sponsored by the hotel and Con Edison. At the party, which lasts from 6 until 8 p.m., there will be Santa’s workshop, food, drinks, and plenty of giveaways.
