Kai’s Extreme Martial Arts blends the discipline of athletic training with the warmth of a family atmosphere to bring out the best in its students.
Helping children and adults realize their potential physically as well as mentally has been a goal for Sensei Kai Evers since he started teaching martial arts styles at the age of 17.
Evers holds a Black Belt, Fourth Degree in all the martial arts styles taught at his center. He was a student of Sensei Robert Hernandez, formerly of New York, now living in Puerto Rico, and was head instructor at eight schools before opening his own center.
“Martial arts kept me out of trouble,” Evers said. “It’s kept me on the right path. It’s kept me strong physically and mentally. The discipline is great for self-control. It’s great for a positive outlook.”
Among the martial arts forms taught by Evers and certified instructors at the center are Judo, Aikido, Ju-Jitsu, Tae Kwon Do, Nin-Jitsu, and Karate. Monthly fees are $100, plus a registration fee of $35. Uniforms are free once you sign up and students may take classes as often as they like.
Located at 95-14 101st Avenue in Ozone Park, the center is open Monday through Friday from 4-9 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
The discipline of martial arts helps children and adults realize their full potential both physically and mentally and Kai’s Extreme Martial Arts offers a different approach to training in the field, Evers said.
“A lot of martial arts centers see people as dollar signs,” he added. “My martial arts instructor was like a father to me. My mom was a single mother and he corrected me. I think of my students as family.”
Evers, who started his own daughter in martial arts three years ago at the age of four, said he wants to contribute something positive in the lives of others. His program is both a business and a means of giving to his community. Students range in age from two to 72.
