Verizon Wireless comes to Bayside

Verizon Wireless, operator of the self-proclaimed “nation’s most reliable wireless network,” recently opened a new Communications Store in Bayside, the 141st in the New York Metro area.
Conveniently located on the lower level of the Bay Terrace Plaza shopping center at 23-70 Bell Boulevard, the new store features over 3,100 square feet of retail, technical support and customer service space.
“The new store is beautiful and the location is great - we’re right next to the Barnes & Noble,” store manager and Flushing resident Zhanna Kalen said. “The people here are so nice.”
Holiday store hours are Monday through Wednesday 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., Thursday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. The store phone number is 718-281-0920.
The people of Verizon are encouraging area residents to help survivors of domestic violence, by bringing no-longer-used wireless phones to the new store for donation to the company’s HopeLine phone recycling program.
“There’s a collection box for cell phones in the back of the store, next to the Bill Payment Kiosk,” Kalen said.
HopeLine collects used cell phones to be recycled or sold and donates the proceeds in the form of cash grants and pre-paid wireless phones to several advocacy groups, which distribute them for use by battered women.
Verizon Wireless was the first wireless carrier in the nation to collect and recycle old cell phones, and has done so on behalf of survivors of domestic violence since January 1999 - first in New Jersey and New York and then across the US.
In case you were wondering, Kalen says that the hottest phone this season is “clearly the Voyager on our network, which is the fastest and most reliable.”
Verizon’s new phone offers instant messaging, internet access, TV, touch screen and turn-by-turn navigation, which is important once all the phone’s features make your head spin.
