If you think that internet “chat rooms” are just places for kids to waste time, here is some news.
The Queens Library has one - a live, free online reference service for questions that require brief, accurate answers that can be found in reference resources - and now it’s available in Spanish, too.
On Monday, April 28, the Library announced the launch of Spanish language service on their “InfoLine Chat,” a service available to library customers from their web site.
The reference chat service puts you in actual contact with experienced librarians, working with many reference tools. All the information related to this service - including e-mail addresses - is always kept confidential.
This service is for quick, factual questions. They can help you to use the online library resources and find correct information.
The service also answers questions about the Queens Library and about its collections and databases - what material the library has and where materials are located.
It’s simple. Go to the web site: www.queenslibrary.org and click on the “Ask a Librarian” button. There’s a link to the Spanish-language page. There is also a button on the Spanish-language web page - “Bibliotecario a Su Alcance.”
Both these links take you to the QuestionPoint Spanish Chat landing page (“Communicate e informate”) where instructions are provided in Spanish.
Give your name and e-mail address and, you are ready to go - although if you have a “pop-up blocker” you may have to disable it.
The service is available Mondays through Fridays from 10 a.m. to 8:45 p.m. and Saturdays, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. When this service is not available in real-time, you are invited to send in your question by e-mail.
Queens Library is an independent, not-for-profit corporation and is not affiliated with any other library. With a record 21 million items in circulation, it has the highest circulation of any public library system in the U.S. and one of the highest in the world.
