‘Women for Comrie’

Over 200 women gathered on Saturday, April 19 to host a fundraising breakfast in appreciation of New York City Councilmember Leroy Comrie (center) at the Crowne Plaza JFK Hotel in Jamaica. Dubbed “Women For Comrie”, supporters gathered to hear the politician discuss his vision to enhance borough services in the face of rapid population growth and economic development. Additionally, he discussed his recent efforts to raise awareness about the rise in sexual violence against women in Queens, as well as workshops he has convened to assist women-owned business development. Each of the women made a commitment to host a house party fundraiser for Comrie, who is considering a run to succeed Borough President Helen Marshall. Also in attendance were Assemblymember William Scarborough and Democratic State Committeewoman Joan Flowers.
