The American Red Cross for Greater New York (ARC/GNY) had a rededication ceremony on Wednesday, June 11 of their newly renovated office on Queens Boulevard. Former mayor David Dinkins, New York Mets relief pitcher Pedro Feliciano and Mr. Met, the official mascot for the Mets, helped cut the ribbon at the new Briarwood location.
Red Cross Queens Director Joan Foley said, “With these renovations, the American Red Cross in Queens will be even better able to respond to serve the people of our borough, responding to emergencies and teaching residents preparedness skills,” Foley said.
The new office, located on 138-02 Queens Boulevard, will include a retail store with various American Red Cross safety items. These items would include emergency “go bags,” first aid kits, radios, flashlights, and pet first aid kits. The staff and volunteers at this location will be able to “increase its emergency response services, programs and classes for the residents of Queens,” according to published reports.
Additionally, this office has extended space to “meet the community’s needs for disaster response training, Safety & Preparedness classes, volunteer training and readiness programs,” according to published reports.
The space will also allow room for more storage of emergency supplies and a training room for volunteers and employees.
