Bell Academy holds first graduation at St. John’s

Bell Academy, the 6th through 8th grade public school located at 18-25 212th Street in Bay Terrace, held its very first graduation at St. John’s University recently.

At the event, on Friday, June 19, Valedictorian Sara Kim, and salutatorian Jennifer Choi addressed the crowd.

Honored guests included Eric Nadelstern, Chief Schools Officer for the New York City Department of Education (DOE); Dr. Jerrold Ross, Dean of the St. John’s University School of Education and Executive Officer for Instruction Diane Foley of the DOE Integrated Curriculum and Instruction division.

Led by Principal Cheryl Quatrano-Hatzidimitriou and Assistant Principal Catalina Marte, the ceremony was directed by the school’s Arts Coordinator, Maria Romano.

Bruno Meira received the Roseanne Moore Scholarship Award and John Lee received the St. John’s University Achievement Award.

School nurse Patricia Hartman received a special award for her outstanding work in saving the life of a Bell student who had collapsed after sports activity.
