Golf Associations Hold Open Meeting

The Towers Men’s Golf Association (TMGA) and Towers Ladies’ Golf Association (TLGA) held a joint open meeting on Thursday, June 18.

TMGA President Ed Vesel began the meeting by talking about the sponsored membership program and thanking those who worked hard during the screening process.

“We just didn’t accept anybody that decided it was a good idea to join our club,” Vesel said, adding that criminal background checks were conducted.

Noting that there are 57 sponsored members this year, Vesel said that the program “was a huge success.” He said that there will be a cap placed on the amount of sponsored members allowed.

Vesel said that a couple of the sponsored golf members have already bought apartments at North Shore Towers and several others a looking into doing the same.

In TMGA, Vesel there are 148 resident members and 48 non-resident members. There are also 119 members of TLGA.

In concluding his remarks, Vesel informed the golfers that the annual UJA tournament will be held in August.

“Please get involved,” he said. “It’s important.”

TLGA President Ina Rudolph said that the ladies held an opening tournament and luncheon on May 19.

Rudolph also said that TLGA has one more member than it did last year. There are also 19 new members this year.

“We’re delighted to welcome them into the women’s group,” she said.

Hilda Rosenfeld, the 18-hole tournament chair, also spoke about the new members.

“We welcome them and we will do our best to make them happy,” Rosenfeld said. “Many of the new members are playing in our tournaments.”

Rosenfeld said that some new formats have been introduced to the tournaments this year and there will be more “partnership” and “fun” tournaments. She also said that the Ladies Member Guest will be held on Wednesday, July 29 and the theme will be “ladies in red.”

Nine-hole tournaments co-chair Muriel Krugman also said that they will be offering different tournaments this year.

Krugman said that, although they lost some nine-hole players, some of the 18-holers have come over to the group.

“We’re willing and anxious to welcome anyone and everyone to our nine-hole group,” she said.

Harriet Lane also spoke about the upcoming Babe Zaharias Tournament and Card Party to benefit the American Cancer Society, which will be held on Tuesday, July 14. The event will also include a luncheon. Lane explained that this year there are some new programs, including a Tree of Life and entire hole sponsorships.

Golf Professional Bob Guido highlighted some of the upcoming season events. In July there will be “play with the pro” and on August 7 there will be a mixed member guest.
