The Fireman’s Fund and HUB International Northeast presented a $10,000 grant to the members of Engine 298/Ladder 127 on September 3 at their quarters in Jamaica.
The funds will be used to purchase a laptop, digital camera and other equipment that will be used to create presentations for company drills that focus on responses to locations in their coverage area. A forcible entry simulator, designed to train firefighters on how to open all types of doors, and a GPS navigation system to assist in responding to emergencies will also be purchased. Funds will also be used to purchase a treadmill to keep members in shape. Since 2006, Fireman’s Fund has donated over $300,000 to the FDNY.
“Being the best fire department in the world means being the most prepared fire department,” said Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta. “This generous grant helps keep our members prepared both physically and mentally to respond to any emergency and to better protect the people of New York.”
