ELMHURST — A city homicide detective from Long Island died Saturday following a crash on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, police said.
Timothy Duffy, 42, was driving east-bound on the Kosciusko Bridge when he crashed his Toyota Camry into the back of a garbage truck around 4:30 a.m. Saturday, police said.
Duffy was declared dead at Elmhurst Hospital an hour later, officials said.
The detective was a 16-year veteran of the NYPD and worked in Brooklyn, police said.
The two people in the garbage truck were not injured.
