Bust Bayside BMW bulb bandit

Cops responding to a burglar alarm went to the rear of the BMW dealer at 217-07 Northern Boulevard at 1 a.m. on the morning of Monday, November 16 and turned the lights out on a thief.

They say they caught Halil Ahmetovic, 32, in the process of stealing headlights out of new cars parked in the lot. He allegedly jumped over the fence to gain entry, and was in the process of stripping his fifth car when he was found.

After a brief chase, he was apprehended, though not without a struggle, cops say.

According to police, Ahmetovic would break the car’s window to get to the hood release, open the hood and remove the headlights.

He has been charged with multiple felonies, including burglary, auto stripping, grand larceny and criminal mischief, as well as possession of burglar’s tools and resisting arrest.

“This dealership has been hit before,” a police source said. “The alarm did its job.”
