A Sunnyside Chamber of Commerce member complained recently that this neighbhood is not doing enough to promote its restaurants.
Becky Barker, a Chamber member, said at that group’s latest meeting that only two Sunnyside restaurants were listed in the latest Zagat’s guide (Quaint and Turkish Grill) and that “residents” should be doing more to promote them, according to a recent Queens Gazette article.
But Sunnyside restauranteurs are partially responsible for the lack of listings. They must reach out to Zagat and make it clear that they want to be included. Unfortunately, Sunnysiders don’t have many local restaurants to review.
Zagat’s ratings–and inclusion- is based on surveys filled out by restaurant goers. Obviously, positive ones of the exisiting Sunnyside ones are what Barker would be looking for.
However, Sunnyside restaurant owners have not done a great job in promoting themselves. In October, when Queens had its restaurant week, only one Sunnyside restaurant (Dazies) out of the more than 75 particated. Meanwhile, 22 restaurants in Astoria signed on, 11 in Bayside, 7 in Forest Hills, 7 in Long Island City and 5 inRego Park.
