Members of the Sunnyside Business Improvement District, the local chamber of commerce and community leaders met at Dazies Restaurant on Tuesday to discuss ways to improve the neighborhood and lure attractive tenants.
The meeting, led by Ciaran Staunton, who is about to open a business in the neighborhood, addressed the following topics.
- Clean storefronts
- A marketable neighborhood to attract good tenants
- Pairing landlords and potential tenants
The meeting, attended by 26 building and business owners, looked at ways to improve store fronts by introducing a general business code. Members of the group would like to develop a uniform standard for awnings – where those in poor condition are upgraded. They also wants to put an end to practices such as never-ending grand openings – or closing sales.
The group discussed ways in which landlords can find new tenants. They put forward ideas as to how landlords could advertise their buildings and how they should present the neighborhood to commercial tenants.
Future meeting are to be scheduled.
