NEWS BRIEFS Walking tour of Astoria

ASTORIA – The Greater Astoria Historical Society, a non-profit organization supported by the Long Island City community dedicated to preserving the past and using it to promote the community’s future, will host a walking tour of Old Astoria Village on Sunday, October 3 at 11 a.m.

Residents will have the opportunity to explore the beautiful landmark-worthy, pre-Civil War community of large homes and mansions on “the Hill” in Astoria.

The tour starts at Socrates Sculpture Park’s main gate (Vernon Boulevard and Broadway) at 11 a.m. and will skirt the waterfront and then enter old Astoria Village to discuss the community, the homes and the its future.

Those who plan on attending should bring water and sturdy shoes. The event will take place rain or shine.
