Mayor Bloomberg’s new plan to change the way teachers earn tenure I find to be welcome news. The Mayor has just announced that teachers will be eligible for lifetime protection after three years, but it will now be based on test scores, classroom observations and contributions to the community. I absolutely agree with the mayor on how teachers’ tenure should be reached. It should be based on merit and achievements, like any other job. I believe no one should be granted a job for life. What that does is create an atmosphere of laziness for some teachers not to be all they can be for their students who depend on them. This I do believe is a step in the right direction.
