Flushing House board member Paule Alexander received the Director Emeritus Award for her strong leadership, commitment and dedication to delivering outstanding care and services to older adults.
The 96-year-old Bayside resident served on the board at Flushing House since it was built in 1974. The United Adult Ministries (UAM) board of directors presented Alexander with the award upon her retirement on December 16, holding the title of first vice president. UAM is the parent of Flushing House
Flushing House is New York State’s largest not-for-profit, independent living retirement residence.
In addition to the board of Flushing House, Alexander also served on the boards of other senior housing communities, such as Alberta L. Alston House in Corona and Fort Schuyler House in the Bronx.
Alexander has been active with various not-for-profit groups, such as chair of the board of the Whitestone Counseling Center; a member of the Oratorio Society of Queens for 30 years; a reader at Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic in Manhattan for 40 years, and the board of Lincoln Trust.
