JAMAICA — A firefighter who suffered serious burns to his face was one of a dozen FDNY members who was injured fighting an eight-alarm blaze for hours Monday night into Tuesday morning, officials said.
Nearly 300 firefighters responded to the blaze at 95-20 150th St., which started around 6 p.m., an FDNY spokesman said. The fire spread quickly through the 20-foot-by-60-foot iron works shop and it was not under control till 4:45 a.m., firefighters said.
The cause of the blaze was under investigation as of press time Tuesday night, the FDNY said. No civilian was inside the store during the fire, according to firefighters.
Eleven firefighters suffered minor injuries, but a twelfth had to be transported to the burn center at New York-Presbyterian Hospital with second- and third-degree burns to his face, the FDNY said.
