The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) Mobile Spay and Neuter van will visit the Jackson Heights community to help residents examine their pets at affordable pricing.
Co-sponsored by Assemblymember Michael DenDekker and State Senator José Peralta, the ASPCA event will be held on Saturday, April 23 beginning at 7:30 a.m. with a 3:30 p.m. pickup, outside DenDekker’s district office at 33-46 92nd Street in Jackson Heights.
“I’m delighted that my office is hosting a visit by the Mobile Spay and Neuter van to Jackson Heights,” DenDekker said. “Pets are family, and this event provides residents with an opportunity to look after their dogs and cats safely and affordably.”
The event has allowed habitants to have their healthy cats and dogs spayed and neutered at low to no-cost for eligible residents.
“Springtime brings sunshine, flowers and an influx of homeless kittens and puppies as the weather gets warmer,” said Peralta. “Over 40,000 unwanted dogs and cats enter the New York City animal shelter system every year; spay/neuter is a proven way to reduce pet overpopulation.”
The event is on a first-come, first-serve basis and free for residents on public assistance, those receiving Medicare, or wishing to spay or neuter a pit bull. For other pet owners, there is a flat fee of $99, which includes spaying and neutering (if appropriate), rabies vaccination and nail trimming.
“I encourage all pet owners to be a part of the solution by signing up for ASPCA’s mobile spay and neuter clinic,” Peralta said.
The ASPCA advised that only cats and dogs are eligible for the program and must be in good health. The ASPCA also noted no other animals, including rabbits, ferrets or lizards, are eligible for the service.
“To have your cat or dog spayed or neutered, as well as given a rabies vaccination and have nail trimming – all for less than $100 – is a great deal, and I urge residents to take advantage of it,” DenDekker said.
