Japan earthquake fundraiser

Local musicians in Astoria recently banded together under the leadership of Astoria resident Mina Nakajima-Wu, to hold a fundraising concert and raffle for the victims of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan that left over 24,000 people dead or missing and over 100,000 children displaced from their homes.

Acts such as Astoria’s own ‘Saw Lady’ (a.k.a. Natalia Paruz) played classical music accompanied by pianist Mary Bopp, bass opera singer Bryce Smith, composer and piano teacher Clint Borzoni, violin duo Sephira and the Brown Rice Family band and local violin and piano students performed at the event.

All proceeds were donated to the Japan Society of New York, a non-profit agency dedicated to cultivating a constructive and dynamic relationship between the people of the U.S. and Japan and an active fundraiser for the Japan relief efforts.
