New athletics director at Queens College

Queens College will continue its much-heralded sports program with a new vice president as of August 1.
After a thorough search, the college appointed China Jude as their new assistant vice president of Athletics beginning with the 2011 fall semester. At her new position, Jude will ensure the continued success of the college’s recreation and summer camp programs.
Sue Henderson, the school’s chief operating officer and vice president of Institutional Advancement, said that Jude was chosen because of her many accomplishments as director of athletics at Cheney University in Pennsylvania.
“Queens College has an excellent reputation for its accomplished scholar athletes the cornerstone of Division II athletics,” said Henderson. “China’s proven experience building effective athletics programs is exactly what’s needed to build on our strength and more fully incorporate athletics into campus life. We are delighted she is joining the team.”
Jude resurrected the university’s athletics program after a three year NCAA probationary period, restoring the athletics program to a respectable entity. Also during her time at Cheney two coaches were awarded the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) basketball coach of the year, the school had two Academic All-Americans and the team won eight individual PSAC championships. Her department also earned a 2010 NCAA Division II Game Environment Award.
Jude said that she is extremely excited to lead Queens College to even greater athletic success in the coming years.
“The Queens College athletics program has great potential,” said Jude. “I am excited by the prospect of working with the staff, students and the entire college as we look to advance to a new higher level.”
Jude earned her bachelors in Broadcast Journalism from Alabama State University in 1994, and a Master of Sports Science in Sports Management at United States Sports Academy in 1996. She is currently pursuing her Doctor of Education degree in Athletic Administration at North central University in Prescott, Arizona.
