“Summer Streets” Catered to All Ages Saturday

Aug. 25, 2011 By Sue Baldock

The Sunnyside Business Improvement District (BID) continued its Summer Street series this past Saturday by putting on a magic show for children and a jazz event for adults.

Sunnyside Shines has staged an event every Saturday this August under the arch. This past Saturday was the third of the four events planned this year.

Children interacted with professional magicians and clowns. They were also were offered the opportunity to play games, sing, get their faces painted, receive balloon animals and much more.

After these festivities, the adults were entertained by Frank Pedulla & The Music Staff Swing Orchestra. Playing standards from the 30’s and 40’s, Pedulla took the audience through a sentimental journey through the Swing era. The orchestra performed the arrangements of Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Harry James and Artie Shaw.

This coming weekend Sunnyside Shines will host the Jon Bates Band with music from the 60’s and 70’s followed by Paul Maringelli’s New Houn’Dogs Rockabilly! It will be the final event of the season.
